Brief History

Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of the Degree Programme

The Department of Business Administration offers courses leading to the award of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree in Business Administration, which may be awarded with Honours or as a pass degree. The philosophy and mission statements underlying the Business Administration programmes is to produce graduates equipped with critical skills and abilities to: abstract using simple business models that identify the essence of a problem; analyze and reasons – both deductively and inductively; marshal evidence, assimilate structure and analyze qualitative and quantitative data; communicate concisely the results to a wide audience, including those with no training in Business Administration; think critically about the limits of one’s analysis in a broader socio-economic context; and draw economic policy inferences and to recognize the potential constraints in their implementation.

Objectives of the Degree Programme

The objective of this programme is to produce high-level managerial work-force equipped with the appropriate knowledge, skills and aptitude to handle the ever-growing and changing business environment

The Department of Business Administration of Fountain University, Osogbo offers the following programmes of courses leading to the award of

(i)               B.Sc Degree in Business Administration

 

B.SC. (HONS.) Business Administration

Admission and Graduation Requirements

(a)        Admission

(i)         UTME:           Candidates for admission into four-year degree in Business Administration should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate, General Certificate of Education, NECO or their equivalents with at least five credit passes, at not more than two sittings including Mathematics, English Language, Commerce and Economics. In addition, candidates must have acceptable passes in UME.

UTME Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject chosen from Government, Geography, Commerce and Principles of Accounts

(ii)        Direct Entry: Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five Credits in GCE, SSCE, NECO, or an acceptable grade at the Fountain University Degree Foundation Programme, or their equivalents, of which at least, two shall be at Advanced Level, provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examination. For emphasis, credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Commerce and Economics are required.

(b)       Graduation

To graduate, a UTME student must have:

(a) completed and passed the following no of units at each level

100 – 40

200 – 43

300 – 39

400 – 36

Total = 158 including all compulsory courses specified by the University/Department. Note that this total included compulsory, required and elective courses, however, the

students must passed at least 8 units of elective courses. This indicates that the minimum units required for graduation is 150 (UTME)

(b)        Completed and met the standards for all required and optional courses

(c)        Obtain a minimum GPA of 1.5 and

(d)       Met other requirements that may be prescribed by the Department, College and Senate.

To graduate, a Direct Entry (DE) student must have:

a)         completed and passed the following no of units at each level

200 –   48

300 –   47

400 –    33

Total = 128  including all compulsory courses specified by the University/Department

Note that this total included compulsory, required and elective courses, however, the

students must passed at least 8 units of elective courses. This indicates that the minimum  units required for graduation is 120 (DE).

b)         completed and met the standards for all required and optional Courses

c)         obtained a minimum CGPA of 1.5 and

d)         met other requirement that may be prescribed by the Department, Faculty and Senate.
