About the Department

Our History

Established on January 14th, 2008, alongside the commencement of the university’s academic activities, this department has since been a hub of academic excellence.
Within our department, we offer three distinct programs:

• B.Sc. Computer Science
• B.Sc. Statistics and Bioinformatics
• B.Sc. Mathematics

Each of these programs spans four years (equivalent to eight semesters), with the second semester of the third year dedicated to the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Over the years, the department has successfully graduated twelve sets of B.Sc. Computer Science students, with no less than thirty graduates per academic set. Our alumni have made significant strides globally, and our current student body exceeds two hundred individuals across various academic levels.

Prof. W. A. Gbolagade of blessed memory was the pioneer Head of Department in 2008. He was succeeded by Dr. D. A . Agunbiade in an acting capacity. They both spent two years each. Followed by Dr L. S. Akinola who coordinated the Department until Dr A. O. Babatunde who was on sabbatical from the University of Ilorin in the 2013 / 2014 Session. In the 2014 / 2015 session, Dr A. A. Owolabi also came on board as the Departmental Coordinator followed by then Dr A.J.K Shittu but now Prof AJK Shittu and back to Dr A. A. Owolabi in 2019/2020 session. They were both succeeded by Dr M. A. Ogunrinde in October 2020 at the beginning of 2020/2021 session and she is still the current Head of the Department.

It’s worth noting that the B.Sc. Computer Science Degree Programme and the Postgraduate Programmes offered by the department are fully accredited, mirroring the high standards of our academics.
