The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University Osogbo, Professor Amidu Sanni and his entourage consisting of other principal officers and members of the University went round the ancient city of Osogbo, the capital of the State of Osun on a courtesy visit to important personalities and institutions within the State. The tour covered a visit to the Palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, The Chief Imam of Osun State, the National President of Osogbo Progressive Union as well as a visit to the Osun State Command of the Police Force and NSCDC. According to the VC, the reasons for the visit is to familiarize the new management team with the immediate community where the institution is located; to enhance the community relations of Fountain University and to increase the publicity and visibility of the university programmes and activities to the public.
At the Palace of the Ataoja, the team was warmly received by the paramount ruler of Osogboland, HRH Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II, other prominent traditional chiefs of Osogbo as well as some local government officials. During the visit, Prof. Sanni expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and warm reception he received from the traditional ruler and the people of Osogbo and also called for more cordial relationship with the host community. He then advocated for an end to the land dispute hindering the university development. The Oba was ecstatic at the visit from the team and he promised them that all issues relating to the development of the institution will be discussed and subsequently solved.
At the residence of the President, League of Imams and Alfas of the State of Osun, Sheikh Musa Muh’dRabiu Animashaun, the Vice-Chancellor in his remark stated that arrangements had been concluded for the commencement of diploma courses for Arabic teachers and Islamic clerics in Fountain University. While speaking on behalf of the Chief Imam, the Mufti of Osogboland, Sheikh Ma’ruf Ishola thanked the Vice Chancellor and his team for the visit and advised that more of such visits can facilitate Osogbo Muslim Community involvement in the activities of the institution and by extension, lead to the settlement of the land dispute already hindering the university development as expressed by the management team.
Speaking on behalf of the Osogbo Progressive Union, the National President, Dr. AbdulRasaq Adejare Siyanbola was delighted and honoured to receive the management team and his entourage. He emphasized the need for Osogbo community’s involvement in the affairs of Fountain University stressing that the impact of Osogbo philanthropists should be felt. Dr. Siyanbola assured that efforts will be intensified to support the infrastructural development and media visibility of the institution. The Vice Chancellor then implored the community leaders to encourage more indigenes to enrol for admission into Fountain University.
Prof Sanni also visited the state command of the Nigerian Police Force where he was received by Olafimihan Adeoye, Commissioner of Police, Osun State and other top police officers in the state. The team also visited the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, where the commander, Commandant Aboluwoye Ebenezer and other officials were on hand to receive the delegation. Another point of call of visit was to the state office of the Department of State Security Services in Osogbo. The Vice Chancellor requested for support in the training of security personnel and improvement in security infrastructure of Fountain University.
