Brief History of the Department

The Department houses two programmes, namely; B.Sc. Degree in Accounting and B.Sc. Degree in Banking and Finance. The two are among the foundational programmes that the University took off with when it was established in the year 2007. The Department took off impressively with a handful of students who are doing well today in their chosen career paths. The Department also runs a Conversion programme where holders of Higher National Diploma (HND), Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and National Certificate in Education (NCE) are being admitted into 200 Level of the Degree programmes. The certificates qualifying the applicants for admission into the respective programmes must be obtained in the related fields in addition to satisfying the basic minimum ordinary level requirements as approved by the University.

The philosophy and mission underlying the Accounting and Finance programmes is to produce accountants and financial experts capable of making valuable contributions to the development of accounting and finance practices and the Nigerian economy in general.

  • • Provide the basic knowledge needed for preparing students for careers in industrial, commercial, public and other human organizations.
  • Equip the students with necessary skills and competence for recognizing, defining and taking appropriate decisions to solve management and accounting problems of an organization.
  • Prepare students for the acquisition of professional competence required by national and international accounting bodies.
  • Provide a strong academic background for research and post-graduate studies.

Admission Requirement

Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Candidates for admission into the four –year degree in Accounting should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate, General Certificate of Education, NECO or their equivalents with at least five credit passes, at not more than two sittings including Mathematics, English Language and Economics. In addition, candidates must have acceptable passes in UTME.

  • UTME Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject chosen from Government, Geography and Account.

Direct Entry

In addition to the ‘O’ level requirement of five (5) credits including Mathematics and English Language, candidates on a three-year programme must have: GCE ‘A’ Level or H.S.C.  Passes in Economics and Accounting; OR Ordinary National Diploma (O.N.D) in Accountancy of approved Polytechnic or College of Technology with a grade not lower than the equivalent of Lower Credit; OR National Certificate of Education (N.C.E) in Accounting with distinctions or Credit/Merit passes or Accounting Technician Scheme West Africa (ATSWA) or Grade II Teachers’ Certificate which include English Language and Elementary Mathematics; OR an acceptable grade at the Fountain University Degree Foundation Programme.

Inter-University Transfer Mode

  1. Candidates shall be allowed to transfer from other universities, provided they:
  2. Purchase and complete the prescribe application forms obtainable from the admissions office of Fountain University;
  3. Hold the minimum requirements for admission into the University; ensure that transcripts of their academic records and special confidential reports on them (are forwarded by appropriate officials of their current institutions) and received in the Admission Office of Fountain University, before commencement of the intended session for which admission is being sought.
