FUO Colloquium

The digital cosmos has thrown up new challenges in academics, research, scholarship, career development and indeed in all aspects of national and international interactions.

Universities as ‘factory knowledge’ and more particularly, faith-oriented Higher Education Institutions (HEI) have additional challenges of authenticating their relevance and legitimacy in the face of ever-unfolding security imperatives, threats to the education system, declining research output and low utilization of products of research enterprises.

The new-fangled multidisciplinary collaboration between the humanities and the sciences, and indeed the mentorship tradition in the academia have inspired Fountain University to create, on the occasion of her 2022 Convocation, an academic platform for the examination of this subject matter.

It is going to be in the form of an international colloquium in honour of Professor Toyin Falola, the most distinguished, decorated, first African professor to be awarded the Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) by examination.

Boko Haram and other millenarian, terrorist movements have dubiously used the markers or narratives of religion, ethnic trade, political affiliations, among others, to undermine national security, the research economy, and the academe (abductions of students and lecturers readily come to the fore here).

The Colloquium aims at generating informed discourses on the emerging interface between humanities and the sciences in an atmosphere of high risks but one with monumental digital facilities and opportunities.

How can faith-oriented HEI and indeed the research world improve their impacts in a an increasingly competitive world for local, national and international development? How can academics in the humanities effectively utilize insights from the sciences and vice versa for the development of the industry and the society. The Colloquium is expected to address these key issues among others.

Researching religion in a multifaith society

The Internet, research fair and new methodologies in the humanities, social sciences, and medical/natural sciences.

Islamic Education and the Imperatives for Reform in a Secular and Digital World

Latching onto Entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence World

In the Throes of COVID-19: Implications for Education, Health and Economy
