Fountain University (FUO) has taken a significant leap forward in its cancer research endeavors with the acquisition of additional cutting-edge laboratory equipment worth £46,000 from the University of Cambridge. This generous sponsorship, funded by the Cambridge Alborada Fund, reinforces the institution’s commitment to advancing medical research and community service.
The new equipment will enhance the capabilities of the Molecular Biology and Genetic Diversity Research Laboratory, bolstering the existing infrastructure to facilitate groundbreaking research in cancer diagnosis and treatment. This development is yet another proof of the University’s dedication to supporting innovative research collaborations and improving public health outcomes.
The sponsorship supports the research activities co-led by Prof. Nusrah Afolabi-Balogun of Fountain University and Dr. Sara Pensa of the University of Cambridge. This international collaboration underscores the University’s strategic focus on building partnerships that drive scientific progress and address pressing global health challenges.
Recall that in line with its community-oriented approach, the Laboratory recently organized a successful free cervical cancer outreach program. Over 600 women benefited from free screening tests, while researchers, postgraduate students, and health practitioners received complimentary training in early cervical cancer diagnosis during a dedicated workshop.
In her remark, the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim, expressed appreciation for the sponsorship, stating, “We are grateful for the Cambridge Alborada Fund’s support and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts with the University of Cambridge. This donation reflects the University’s commitment to excellence in research and community service. We will continue to prioritize initiatives that improve lives and advance scientific knowledge.”
Fountain University’s dedication to cancer research and community outreach aligns with its mission to provide quality education, encourage innovative research, and promote societal well-being.
