The grand finale, held at the University's sports arena, attracted members of the University community alongside distinguished guests, including the Chairman of NASFAT Osun Zone, representatives of the Osun State Sports Council, and other stakeholders who witnessed a thrilling conclusion to the competition.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the keenly contested football final between the teams of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) and the Registrar. After regulation time ended in a goalless draw, the match was decided via penalties, with the DVC's team emerging victorious to claim the football title.
Beyond the football spectacle, the games featured competitions in table tennis, badminton, volleyball, athletics, javelin, scrabble, tug of war, fast walking, and other sporting events, reflecting the University's commitment to encouraging healthy competition and holistic staff development.
According to the final medal standings, the Vice-Chancellor's Team dominated the competition with 12 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, finishing as overall champions with a total of 18 medals. The Bursar's Team also amassed 18 medals but settled for second place with 4 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals, while the Registrar's Team placed third with 1 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals. The Librarian's Team finished fourth with 8 medals, while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor's Team rounded off the standings with 3 medals, including the coveted football title.
A major highlight of the competition was the outstanding performance of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, who was named the Most Valuable Female Athlete (MVP) after an exceptional display across multiple sporting events.
Professor Karim won an impressive six gold medals in Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Badminton (Singles), Badminton Mixed Doubles, Table Tennis Mixed Doubles, and Volleyball, in addition to two silver medals in the 100 metres race and Table Tennis (Singles).
Reflecting on the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and described the recognition as a testament to the University's unwavering commitment to promoting sports alongside academic excellence.
"Winning six Gold Medals and two Silver Medals at the 2026 Staff Games earned me the distinction of Most Valuable Female Athlete, while the Vice-Chancellor's Team emerged as the Overall Champion.
"This achievement is a testament to Fountain University's commitment to providing a veritable platform for staff and students to excel in sports, leadership, and personal development.
"As Vice-Chancellor, I am delighted to demonstrate leadership by example, showing that excellence, discipline, teamwork, resilience, and a healthy lifestyle are values that should be embraced by all members of our University community."
Professor Karim also appreciated the Sports Committee, the Chief Coach, team captains, and every member of staff whose commitment contributed to the success of the games.
"Together, we have demonstrated that Fountain University is not only a citadel of academic excellence but also a community that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and holistic development," she added.
The Vice-Chancellor further commended participants for exhibiting sportsmanship, resilience, and mutual respect throughout the competition, noting that such values remain central to the University's philosophy of producing well-rounded individuals.
The Staff Games were organised by the University Sports Committee, chaired by Professor Busrat Adekola, and supervised by the Chief Coach, Mr. Ganiyu Adedokun, whose dedication ensured the smooth coordination of the various events. At the close of the competition, cash prizes were presented to the participating teams in recognition of their performances and commitment throughout the games.
The successful conclusion of the 2026 Staff Games once again reflects Fountain University's commitment to fostering a healthy work environment where academic excellence is complemented by physical wellness, teamwork, and community engagement.
