Fountain University, Osogbo, has received another remarkable endorsement on the global academic stage as internationally acclaimed historian and scholar, Professor Toyin Falola, paid glowing tribute to the institution in his recently published memoir, Malaika and the Seven Heavens: A Memoir of My Encounters with Islam.

In the book, published in 2025 by the University of Michigan Press, Professor Falola reflected on his encounters with Islamic tertiary institutions in Nigeria, describing Fountain University as a model institution where academic excellence is harmoniously integrated with Islamic values and moral development.

Sharing his experience, the distinguished scholar wrote:

> "Among these, Fountain University stands as a beacon of innovation, seamlessly blending Western educational models with Islamic principles. The ambiance of its campus makes it feel like a realm where spirituality and academic excellence coexist harmoniously, emphasizing that the pursuit of knowledge isn't just about acquiring skills but about nurturing the soul and embracing morality."

Professor Falola further recalled the warm reception he received during his visit to the University and commended the quality of engagement he had with members of the academic community.

> "I was privileged to engage with students and faculty members who epitomized dedication and passion for learning. The vibrancy of academic discourse intertwined with the serenity of spiritual contemplation created an environment unlike any other."

The reflections, contained in pages 209–210 of the memoir, represent an independent affirmation of Fountain University's philosophy of producing graduates who combine academic competence with sound moral character and spiritual discipline.

Professor Toyin Falola is one of Africa's foremost historians and public intellectuals. He is the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, United States, where he has made immense contributions to African history, culture, politics, religion, and global scholarship. His prolific academic career has produced hundreds of scholarly publications, making him one of the most cited African scholars of his generation.

The distinguished academic is no stranger to Fountain University. In 2022, an international colloquium was held in his honour at the University's 11th Convocation Ceremony, where he delivered an insightful keynote that challenged graduates to embrace knowledge, innovation, and ethical leadership in addressing contemporary societal challenges.

Professor Falola's latest commendation adds to the growing list of recognitions that continue to position Fountain University as one of Nigeria's leading faith-based institutions of higher learning. His observations particularly resonate with the University's enduring commitment to integrating quality education with spiritual and moral values while nurturing graduates equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.

For the Fountain University community, the tribute is more than an acknowledgement from a globally respected scholar; it is a reaffirmation that the University's vision of building intellect for global leadership through academic excellence and character formation continues to attract recognition beyond Nigeria's borders.
