Professor Serifat Olubunmi LABO-POPOOLA holds a 2002 PhD degree in Educational Evaluation from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; a 1997 Master’s degree in Educational Management from the then Ogun State University; a 1998 Master’s in Industrial & Labour Relations; a 1985 Bachelor of Education; and a 1981 Nigeria Certificate in Education, both from the University of Ibadan. With the establishment of state and private universities in Osun State, she decided to join Fountain University, Osogbo in 2008 as a full time lecturer.
At Fountain University, she coordinated the General Studies Unit, taught Use of English as well as supervised the Student Affairs Unit. She served on many Committees in the University. She rose to become a Lecturer I before joining the services of Adeleke University, Ede in November, 2011 as a Senior Lecturer. At the Adeleke University, she rose through the ranks – Associate Professor in 2015 and a full Professor in April, 2018. Prof. Labo-Popoola teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Languages and Literary Studies. She was at a time a facilitator at the Nigerian Teachers’ Institute and the National Open University of Nigeria. She also supervised student theses at these two institutions.
Her areas of specialization include: evaluation of student performance in language; research methods; language related courses such as sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, etc. She belongs to many academic associations such as the Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN), Educational Assessment Research Network in Africa (EARNiA); West African Research and Innovation Management Association (WARIMA); Association of Educational Research and Evaluators in Nigeria (ASSEREN). She has delivered papers in many conferences both home and abroad. She has equally supervised many undergraduate and post graduate theses. It is heartwarming to report that Serifat is back at Fountain University, Osogbo to spend her sabbatical engagement, where she is helping to midwife an addition to the University, the new College of Arts and Education.
She remains a resource person in academic, counselling and religious endeavours. She is a regular voice on both radio and television.
