Secretary to Kogi State Government Delivers Keynote Address at Fountain University’s Second Annual Prof. HOB Oloyede Lecture

The second annual Prof. HOB Oloyede Lecture took place on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Fountain University, with the Secretary to the State Government of Kogi State, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D, delivering a thought-provoking lecture on the theme “Mycotoxins and Public Health in Nigeria: Assessing the Risks and Impacts.”

The lecture, organized by the College of Natural and Applied Sciences under the leadership of the Dean, Prof. Hakeem Bolarinwa, was held to honor the legacy of the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Prof. H.O.B Oloyede. Prof. Oloyede is a renowned scholar and administrator who has made significant contributions to the education sector in Nigeria.

The event was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim, who also led the University management team to the event. Other dignitaries in attendance included the mentees of the honoree, led by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Temidayo Adeniji, who also delivered the maiden edition of the Lecture.

Representatives from various institutions, including the University of Ilorin, where Prof. Oloyede retired from active service, and Summit University, were also present. The event was further graced by a pool of family and friends led by the former Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University and Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Misbaudeen Akanji.

In her lecture, Mrs. Ayoade emphasized the importance of addressing the risks and impacts of mycotoxins on public health in Nigeria. She highlighted the need for increased awareness, research, and policy implementation to mitigate the effects of mycotoxins on human health.

The event further brought to life, the enduring legacy of Prof. Oloyede, who has inspired generations of scholars and administrators in Nigeria. The lecture series, which is held annually, serves as a platform for intellectuals and experts to share their knowledge and insights on various topics of national and global significance.
