IWD – Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress

Under the transformative leadership of Prof Olayinka Ramota Karim, the distinguished first female Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, we joyfully celebrate International Women’s Day today, March 8th Originating from the impactful women’s movements in the early 20th century, this year’s campaign theme, “Inspire Inclusion,” resonates profoundly with the overarching theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”

The commitment to these themes is evident through the establishment of the Centre for Research, Innovation, and Technology, the Centre for Development and In-House Training, and the active involvement of the Association of Women in Academia at Fountain University.

Moreover, our support for staff capacity development, including the pursuit of higher degrees and participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops, further reinforces our dedication to investing in women and accelerating their progress.

Notable Achievements under leadership of Prof Olayinka Ramota Karim:

  1. Professorial Cadre Advancements: Prof Mariam Adeoye and Afolabi-Balogun have achieved the pinnacle of academic excellence, reaching the esteemed professorial cadre. This marks a significant milestone for women’s accomplishments in academia at Fountain University.
  2. Innovative Equipment Donation: Prof Majeedah Afolabi-Balogun’s collaboration with TReNDinAfrica stands as a testament to our commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation. The donation of over 148 million naira worth of equipment reinforces Fountain University’s position as a hub for advancements in technology and scientific exploration.
  3. Grant Success in Research: Dr O Simiat Ogunbode, in collaboration with a fellow researcher from LAUTECH, secured a substantial grant exceeding 25 million naira under NBR of TETFUND. This accomplishment underscores our dedication to impactful research with tangible outcomes.
  4. International Workshop Participation: Dr Suliat Abdullahi and Dr Rukayah Yakubu showcased our commitment to global knowledge exchange by representing Fountain University at an international workshop in Ghana in February 2024. Their participation highlights our university’s engagement on the international stage.
  5. Multi-Million Pound Grant on Cancer Research: Prof Majeedah Afolabi-Balogun, in collaboration with a researcher from the University of Cambridge, secured a groundbreaking multi-million pounds grant for cancer research. This achievement not only elevates the profile of Fountain University but also emphasizes our leadership in addressing critical global challenges.
  6. Doctoral Achievement and Higher Degree Acquisition: Dr Baseerat Abdusalami’s acquisition of her Ph.D. degree and Mrs Fasiwat Adenariwo’s acquisition of a Master’s Degree under the leadership of Prof Karim further exemplifies the nurturing academic environment fostered by Fountain University.
